Ex-Firefighter, Teen Charged With Multiple Arsons In New Stanton

NEW STANTON, Pa. —

An ex-firefighter and a 15-year-old junior firefighter with the New Stanton Volunteer Fire Department have been charged with multiple counts of arson.

Police said Michael Ott, 22, of Youngwood, started at least three fires over the past three months.

Ott was arrested and charged with three counts of arson, burglary and recklessly endangering another person, police said.

Officials said the 15-year-old junior firefighter torched his own home while his parents were sleeping last week.

The teen apparently had second thoughts, police said, and he went upstairs to alert his parents. All three were able to escape the blaze unharmed.

The teen faces several charges including arson and burglary.

Both the teen and Ott are jailed on $100,000 bond each.
