Exclusive: Rick Earle Interviews Lead Investigator In Roethlisberger Case

Channel 11 News reporter Rick Earle got an exclusive interview with the lead investigator in a case in which Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is accused of sexual assault.

Police are investigating a 20-year-old college student's claim that Roethlisberger sexually assaulted her early last Friday at the club in Milledgeville, Ga.

Roethlisberger has not been charged, and his attorney disputes the woman's claim.

Earle caught up with the Georgia Bureau of Investigations' Tom Davis.

Below is a transcript of the entire interview:

Earle: There are reports that Roethlisberger said he did have contact but not intercourse with the woman and that she hit her head. What do you have to say about that?

Davis: Ok, good.

Davis admitted today is a busy day with several interviews lined up.

Davis: We're still just working on it as hard as we possibly can...we have several interviews lined up for today.

Earle: Is it a tough case?

Davis: It's just another case, there are challenging parts, but they are all challenging to some degree.

Earle: You just have interviews to do?

Davis: That and other investigative issues, but primarily interviews.

Davis: We've been slammed (since) this happened. We've had two other death investigations and Milledgeville had a murder.

Earle: Is this a top priority?

Davis: It's a priority, but I don't think this case is any more important than any other case that we work. Every victim of a case thinks their case is the most important case and it is to them and to us. We're doing what we can with the limited resources that we have.

Earle: Are you still saying several weeks?

Davis: I think you're looking at a while. It would be in the next few days.

Earle: Would this ultimately have to go to the DA?

Davis: Yeah our job is just to gather the facts -- seek the truth, that's what we're trying to do in this particular case just like in all cases. As soon as we conclude our investigation we will give it to the District Attorney and he can make an intelligent informed decision in this case.
