Fake Lottery Scam Attempted On Greensburg Resident

Promising Scam Yields Only Debt

GREENSBURG, Pa. —

Greensburg police are cautioning residents about lottery letters requesting cash or personal bank account information.

According to police, the culprits sent an official-looking prize letter from the Express Lottery Commission that read: “We are pleased to inform you that you’ve won the Europe International Lottery for $155,840.”

In with the letter was a fake check for $2,980.78.

The exact amount of what the bogus lottery claimed would be awarded after the alleged winner sent in clearance fees to a prize agent in the Bahamas who would then send the $155,840.

One woman didn’t believe it and now she is helping police send out a warning according to officials.
