Channel 11 spoke with Edith Smittle Wednesday. She said she’ll never forget seeing her son’s dog Smokey mauled by a neighbor’s dog.
Smokey was a 3-year-old terrier mix. He was killed by a neighbor’s bloodhound that wandered over from a home next door.
Smittle said she was just putting Smokey on a leash when the large dog appeared out of nowhere.
“He took Smokey in his mouth. My son tried to save him. He was prying, punching and wrestling with him. He just couldn’t get him loose,” said Smittle.
Smokey was rushed to the vet, but didn’t survive the massive wounds.
Smittle’s son was bitten on the hand, trying to save the small dog.
The bloodhound’s owner, Eddie McCorvey, 25, will be charged with harboring a dangerous dog and violating the state’s dog laws.
