Family loses home in Ross Township fire

ROSS TOWNSHIP, Pa. —

A family lost its Ross Township home to fire Friday morning.

The fire started at a home along Lilac Avenue at 8 a.m.

Family members said the couple and their two children celebrated Thanksgiving, went Black Friday shopping and came home around 5 a.m.  A couple of hours later, a neighbor saved the family from the fire.

"They were sleeping.  A guy across the street came running over, banging on the door, yelling, 'Fire,'" said Maureen Heyl, the mother of one of the victims.

"I had to bang on it for a while.  They eventually came out," said neighbor Paul Shields.

Channel 11 was told by fire officials that the blaze started in the back of the house.

Two neighbors plan to start a collection for the family.
