Fire Destroys Former Penn Hills Pub

3-Story Building Engulfed In Flames

PENN HILLS, Pa. —

The former Maine’s Tavern and Hippo’s Pub in Penn Hills is in danger of coming down after a suspicious fire gutted the structure early Thursday morning.

When firefighters arrived shortly after 5 a.m., flames could be seen shooting out of the building’s windows. The structure sits along Verona and Coal Hollow Roads.

Investigators said all three floors of the building collapsed, making it unsafe. Crews plan to demolish the unstable structure with a crane.

The county fire marshal is at the scene. No injuries were reported.
