Firefighters Quickly Extinguish Fire At Blawnox Chemical Lab

BLAWNOX, Pa. —

Thick black smoke reportedly rose over a neighborhood northeast of Pittsburgh along the Allegheny River just before 8 p.m. Friday.

A nearby fire department responded within minutes and was able to knock the fire down shortly after arriving on scene.

Emergency crews were concerned because a building next door houses hazardous materials and flammable liquids.

Thankfully, the fire was contained to a building where no dangerous items are stored.

The Allegheny County Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
