Armstrong County emergency dispatchers said the ambulance crashed along Route 85 at about 5 a.m. near West Shamokin High School.

The Citizens Ambulance Services vehicle was transporting a patient at the time of the crash, authorities said. Another ambulance took the patient to Kittanning Hospital.

The driver of the ambulance was unhurt.

At the time of the crash, fog blanketed the area with a half-mile of visibility reported. However, the fog has not been pinpointed as a factor in what caused the accident.

The director of the ambulance service was at the scene, helping with the investigation, police said.
