Franklin Park couple accused of assaulting adopted children

FRANKLIN PARK, Pa. —

A deputy state attorney general and his wife are accused of abusing their two adoptedĀ children from Ethiopia.

Police said Douglas Barbour, 33, and Kristen Barbour, 30, of Franklin Park, denied proper nutrition to their 6-year-old son and physically assaulted their 18-month-old daughter.

Douglas Barbour faces endangering the welfare of children, aggravated assault and simple assault charges. Kristen Barbour faces endangering the welfare of children and aggravated assault charges.

Pennsylvania Attorney General Linda Kelly on Thursday issued the following statement:

"Deputy Attorney General Douglas Barbour has been charged with a serious crime.

The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is in the process of reviewing the criminal complaint and will closely monitor the charges as they progress through the criminal justice system.

Mr. Barbour faces a felony offense. Under OAG policy, he will be suspended without pay pending the resolution of the charges.

At this time, our thoughts are with the children and the Office of Attorney General will cooperate fully with this investigation."
