Hundreds of family and friends gathered Thursday for an emotional goodbye to a 19-year-old woman police said was killed by her father in their Shaler home last month.
A funeral mass was held Thursday at All Saints Parish in Etna for Laurin Edwards. The Saint Francis College student was killed two weeks ago when police said her father, James Edwards, opened fire on his entire family before killing himself.
Edwards had just celebrated her 19th birthday the day before the shooting.
Laurin Edwards’ mother and brother, who survived the shooting, attended Thursday’s funeral.
“She truly is an angel. She is. I know her mother and brother miss her dearly,” family friend Neil Pilewski said after the funeral. “Despite how horrible some things have happened, there’s still good in all of this. Take a look behind, and see all these people.”
Pilewski said Charlene and Jimmy Edwards were released from the hospital over the weekend, and he went to their house on Sunday. According to Pilewski, Jimmy draws comfort from talking about the night that changed his life.
“He’s one of the most optimistic people behind all of this. For Jimmy, he took five shots to the stomach and is still here,” Pilewski said.
A motive for the shootings has not been determined.
