MCKEESPORT, Pa. —
Police said Alaha Crutchfield was playing outside when the dog broke free from its chain, jumped a fence and bit her on the back of the head.
Police said the Alaha’s grandmother was able to get the dog, Zor, away. The girl was taken to Children’s Hospital.
"He was ripping her, yanking her by her hair, back and forth. I was able to get him off of her," said Crutchfield's grandmother, Sharon West.
Channel 11 News was there as dog law enforcement Officer Kenneth Ferree finished his investigation. Ferree said the owner will be charged with having a dangerous pet, among other charges.
“I've been doing this almost 20 years, and I've never seen the owner have to muzzle their own dog to take it outside,” said Ferree. “She was quite nervous with the dog, but I guess the situation that occurred next door, she was not really sure what her dog was going to do next.”
Crutchfield was released from Children's Hospital on Tuesday afternoon.
"She is going to get counseling, and we believe she is going to get through this," said West.
Authorities said the dog had no licenses or vaccinations.
