PITTSBURGH —
The guard, whose name has not been released, was taken to a Pittsburgh hospital with head, leg and back injuries. Officials said she is in stable to serious condition.
Officials said the crossing guard was not assisting children across the road at the time of the accident.
The driver of the vehicle, Roger Sisca, told Channel 11 News he was watching the stoplight as he entered the intersection of Forbes and Wightman avenues.
"The light was still green when I was on my way through," Sisca said. "I didn't see her step off the curb." He said he didn't see the guard until she struck his windshield.
Sisca said he was shaken up after the incident and was on his way to his doctor's office at the time of the crash. "(I) just had open-heart surgery not so long ago," he said.
Police are investigating the incident, and no charges have been filed.
