Hearing Today For Pittsburgh Teacher Charged With Child Porn

A preliminary hearing is scheduled Thursday for a sixth-grade math teacher at Sunnyside Elementary in Stanton Heights who was charged with possession of child pornography and unlawful contact with a minor.

Police said Daniel Toler, 46, of Pittsburgh, used city-owned computers to chat about sex with an undercover detective posing as a 12-year-old girl.

He also performed a webcam sex act and downloaded two dozen images and five videos involving child pornography, police said.

Pittsburgh school officials said Toler resigned from his teaching position.

Investigators believe that Toler did not commit his alleged crimes at school, but from his home in Highland Park.

“Pretty upsetting,” said Chris Noonan, a Highland Park parent with two children, "that this teacher in the school system could slip through the cracks.”
