Hiking Couple Die After Falling From Somerset Cliff

Bodies Of Baum, Cardy Found At Bottom Of Beam Rocks

SOMERSET, Pa. —

A couple fell to their deaths while hiking in Somerset County.

The bodies of 24-year-old Sara Baum, of Greensburg, and 25-year-old Christopher Cardy, of Ligonier, were found at the base of Beam Rocks in Forbes State Park on Sunday morning.

Beam Rocks is known for its 80-foot summit. It is a popular attraction for hikers and rock climbers.

Loved ones began to worry when the pair did not return home from hiking Saturday night.

Troopers said the victims were on top of Laurel Summit when they fell about 30 feet to their deaths. Investigators said they cannot rule out foul play because it is still very early in the investigation.

Anyone who may have been hiking or rock climbing in the area between Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning are urged to contact state police.

Less than 8 months ago, a 19-year-old serviceman died after falling from Beam Rock. His death was eventually ruled an accident.
