Historic Status May Save Kennywood Big Bucks

Park Could Be Exempt From Amusement Tax

WEST MIFFLIN, Pa. —

Historic Kennywood Park could be exempt from a local amusement tax.

The State House has approved a bill that would make it illegal to tax amusement parks that are designated historic landmarks.

The move would keep Kennywood from paying about $1.5 million a year in taxes to the West Mifflin Borough.

The park said the tax makes it hard to compete with other nearby parks.

The Senate must now approve the bill.
