CALIFORNIA, Pa. —
Earlier this summer the town's council passed an ordinance that called for all rental units to be inspected for safety.
Inspectors have been going door-to-door looking at apartments and homes, but according to town officials, only half of them have been inspected and many may not pass.
Channel 11 reporter Dave Bondy found out that 186 out of the 408 houses or apartments that need to be inspected have not been looked at.
The borough said that if an apartment does not pass inspection, students will not be permitted to live in them.
Students said the inspection process is making it difficult to find housing.
"It's really good that they are getting it done and doing it right," said student Justin Heinle. "But they should have given us more warning, considering school is starting at the end of August."
