A Pittsburgh man will serve up to two years in prison for critically injuring a bicyclist in Lawrenceville.
Beau Fishinger pleaded guilty to the crime last week. Prosecutors said he hit 25-year-old Dan Yablonsky with his Jeep Wrangler on Liberty Avenue last May.
According to Channel 11’s news exchange partners at TribLIVE, Yablonsky took the witness stand at Fishinger’s sentencing hearing saying, “I did you a huge favor by not dying.”
Fishinger’s plea deal includes seven years probation and $60,000 in fines.
Fishinger's sentence will run consecutive to the 2½- to five-year sentence a judge imposed in January for violating the terms of his probation on unrelated charges.
Police waited until six months afterward to charge Fishinger because they wanted to be sure Yablonsky had recovered enough to testify. He has since returned to work at Bike Pittsburgh, a Lawrenceville-based bicycle advocacy group.
