PITTSBURGH —
Do you have the drive to learn and work in the fast-paced television arena?
Many departments at WPXI-TV Channel 11 hire interns each semester.
WPXI-TV is a 24 hour operation and accepts full and part-time interns in several departments including News, Creative Services, Internet, Local Programming/Production, Sales and Engineering.
To apply, e-mail your resume to webstaff@wpxi.com and specify which department you are interested in interning with.
What former interns are saying about their experience working for WPXI.com:
"The internship itself has been a life changing experience. Not only have I learned a great deal about the broadcasting field, but also about myself. Interning with WPXI-TV has given me the opportunity to push myself and discover where my strengths and weaknesses lie. I look forward to completing my internship and putting the skills I have learned to the test when I graduate this fall." -- Brooke Kramer, Millersville University of Pennsylvania
"One of my favorite parts of this internship has been the concept of being an individual. The first few weeks the interns’ hands were held until we all understood the level of work that was expected. Since the start of my internship I have had the chance to cover events like Glitzburgh, Beth Ostrosky Stern’s book signing, Pup Night at PNC Park, Mike Tomlin’s Youth Football Camp, Kennywood’s Sky Rocket Media Day, Maniac Magazine’s Summer Villa Party, a promotion shoot, the Regatta and a casting call -- just to name a few." -- Nicole Salopek, Bethany College
"I have had an enjoyable experience while interning at WPXI-TV. The opportunities I have been given, I believe, will help immensely in the real world. I have made several slideshows for the WPXI website. Some larger projects I worked on included the Highmark Walk, the Student Flush, the Anthrocon Convention, the promo shoot for North Hills Lexus and Skylights Media Days. Each project has been different than others and has achieved a different value or outlook." -- Jennifer Kuhn, Marietta College
"One of the reasons I love this internship is because of the wide variety of assignments I get to work on. One day I will go out in the community and cover a local event. This means taking still photographs, shooting video, conducting interviews, etc. Then when I get back to the station I write a story about the event, edit and post my pictures online, and sometimes produce a package. Other times I will work on tasks at the station. Sometimes they are stories that go on our website, and other times I assist employees with whatever projects they need help with. I really enjoy the fact that I am experiencing a lot of different jobs/roles." -- George Marshalek, Syracuse University
"Through this internship I have been treated as an equal member of WPXI-TV and been granted press access to events like Pittsburgh Magazine’s Best Restaurant Party, the Pink Frolic Ball, and Phipps Famers Market. I have also had the opportunity to interview Pauly D from Jersey Shore and Jungle Boogie from America’s Best Dance Crew. Overall this internship has provided me with a glimpse of what working in a real newsroom environment is like and how to succeed in this business." -- Nate Kerns, Penn State University
