Jeannette Family Charged 2nd Time For Enslaving Teenage Girl

JEANNETTE, Pa. —

For the second time in as many years, a Jeannette family is charged with kidnapping and enslaving a teenage girl.

Cynthia Pollard, 44, her son Jonathan, 20, and her daughter Tabitha, 19, are in jail on multiple felony charges after being accused of imprisoning a 17-year-old girl and forcing her to perform sex acts in exchange for food and cigarettes.

According to the criminal complaint, the Pollard family imprisoned the runaway girl in Jonathan Pollard’s apartment on Clay Avenue in Jeannette.

Police said the captive girl was allowed to have two cigarettes a day and if she wanted more, she had to have sex with Jonathan Pollard. She also had to engage in sex acts to get food, police said.

According to the affidavit, on one occasion when the girl attempted to leave the apartment, Jonathan Pollard “got a steak knife and held it to the victim’s throat, telling her ‘I let one (expletive) walk out of here; I’m not letting another one go.’”

In 2007, the Pollards were convicted for beating and enslaving another teenage girl, Emily Nicely, 19, for six months. All three, as well as Cynthia’s husband, Mark Pollard Sr., and their son, Mark Jr., were charged in the crime.

Cynthia and Mark Pollard were sentenced to nearly two years in prison, most of which was served while they awaited sentencing.

The Pollards were arraigned Thursday. Bail was set at $250,000 for Jonathan Pollard, $75,000 for Cynthia Pollard and $50,000 for Tabitha Pollard.
