Kennywood Classic Ride Closes

Gold Rusher Dark Ride Opened In 1981

WEST MIFFLIN, Pa. —

It's the end of an era at Kennywood as a ride once considered to be a classic is going away.

Kennywood is closing the Gold Rusher on Thursday.

The ride takes people on a trip into a dark haunted mine.

The president of Kennywood Entertainment said even classics must come to an end.

The ride was designed by Hollywood special effects designer and Oscar winner Maurice Ayers.

The Gold Rusher opened in 1981.
