Impressions: A few years ago, the term "luxury Kia" would have gotten you plenty of puzzled looks, but then came the Amanti, and for less money than you would have expected. Since its inception, this big sedan, although sharing mechanicals with parent Hyundai, has largely gone its own way to offer plenty of standard luxury appointments for the Kia faithful. As of this writing, Kia has yet to provide a photo of the 2007 Amanti (2006 shown), which apparently receives a number of interior and exterior styling updates as well as a 264-horsepower 3.8-liter V6 to replace the 200-horsepower 3.5-liter unit. A five-speed automatic transmission continues to drive the front wheels. Even with the extra power and displacement, Kia says the new motor is more fuel efficient, but has not provided data to indicate by how much. The suspension has also been lightened, which should improve ride and response to steering inputs. Standard equipment will leave you wanting for little as the Amanti comes with plenty of airbags, dual-zone climate control, leather seating and most power features. Also standard is Kia's impressive 10-year powertrain warranty. In case you do want more, try on the new-for-2007 Premium package that, among other things, changes the interior to black, adds power adjustable pedals and chrome wheels.
