PITTSBURGH —
The money will be used to improve safety and facility maintenance.
Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell made the announcement on Monday.
The Zelienople Municipal Airport is receiving $22,500 for a Remote Communications Outlet, which will allow pilots to communicate directly with Pittsburgh Air Traffic Control for safer departures.
The Butler Farm Show Airport will get $112,500 for the construction of security perimeter fencing. Plus the Finleyville Airport is on tap to receive $127,500 to develop, design and construct a hangar, modernize the administration building, and upgrade the fuel farm's credit card system.
A number of other airports across Pennsylvania will receive assistance as well.
Funding for the grants comes from the state's jet fuel tax and is administered by PennDOT's Bureau of Aviation.
