Local Men Raise Money To Save Shelter Dogs

PITTSBURGH —

Two Pittsburgh-area men are being honored for helping save dogs destined to be put to death.

Brad Childs and Jon Plesset raised $6,000 to buy dog food for shelter dogs.

“These are dogs in shelters with a high kill rate. They don’t have the funding to feed the dogs," Childs said.

He said a 50-pound bag of food is enough to feed a dog for a month.

“How can you kill an animal because you can’t feed them? It seems like such a simple thing," Plesset said.

The men used Facebook to get the fundraising ball rolling.

Their efforts have been noticed by the city of Pittsburgh. City Council issued a proclamation honoring them for their work.

The pair now want to raise another $6,000.

People can drop off dog food at any Eye-Tique location, but monetary donations get a bigger bang for the buck.

That’s because the men are able to buy dog food at a much cheaper price than found in most stores.

Childs is a pilot who works with the nonprofit group called Animal Rescue Flights, which was created by pilots.

If you want to donate money, go to Animal Rescue Flights and click on "Georgia Puppy Caravan."
