Police continue to search for the gunman who shot and killed a 17-year-old boy while he sat in the back of a car in Homewood late Monday night.
The Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Dayjon Parker.
Investigators said Parker’s body was found in the back of a car in the area of Formosa Way and Kelly Street around 10:30 p.m. Police said the victim was most likely shot while seated in the car, near the intersection of Montier and Laketon avenues in Wilkinsburg.
Investigators said the teen was shot once in the head. Detectives said there were three other people inside the Mercury Cougar at the time of the shooting.
According to police, the driver of the car fled the scene and parked the car on Formosa Way. Afterwards, police said all three occupants ran from the car and called the victim’s mother, who then called 911.
Wilkinsburg police said they received calls about a shooting in the area of Montier and Laketon avenues around 10 p.m.
“It just hurts your heart when you hear about kids getting shot. This guy was only 17 years old,” Taran Tillman said.
Tillman, who lives down the street from where police said Parker was shot, said she heard shots fired.
“I heard some shots and that was about it. We heard the shots and we heard a car ride off real fast and that was it,” Tillman said.
So far, no arrests have been made.
Anyone who may have witnessed any of the incidents or anything suspicious around that time is asked to call the Allegheny County Police homicide unit at 412-473-1300.
Parker’s family said he grew up in Homewood and graduated from Pittsburgh Westinghouse last year.
