LOYALHANNA TOWNSHIP, Pa. —
Authorities are investigating after a 3-month-old girl was taken to an area hospital's emergency room Saturday night with two broken arms, a broken leg bone and multiple rib fractures. According to police, the baby was taken to Westmoreland Hospital by her parents for a low heart rate and breathing issues. Upon examination, doctors found that both of the victim's arms were broken, her thigh bone was broken, she had multiple rib fractures and she suffered a significant injury to her skull. Officials said the girl was then airlifted to UPMC Children's Hospital where she remained on Wednesday.
Investigators said the infant’s parents told police that her crib collapsed, causing the injuries. The baby's father spoke to Channel 11 News on Tuesday.
"All I can explain is there is an oxygen tank under the canopy part of the bassinet," said the girl's father.
He said the girl is on oxygen because she was born premature. He said the bassinet fell onto the oxygen tank, causing the injuries.
Police have not released any other details about the incident and said their investigation is ongoing.
