ELIZABETH, Pa. —
An Allegheny County dentist was arrested and charged with insurance fraud after he allegedly continued to practice dentistry with a suspended license.
Attorney General Linda Kelly identified the defendant as Thomas Wasilko, 55, of Elizabeth Township.
Kelly said Wasilko’s dental license was suspended by the Department of State in November 2010 for at least six months.
According to the criminal complaint, despite having a suspended license, Wasilko practiced dentistry from Dec. 11, 2010 through at least April 5, 2011.
The charges state that Wasilko saw multiple patients during that time and submitted more than $10,000 worth of claims for dental services to United Concordia Insurance.
Kelly said that Wasilko is accused of submitting more than 100 insurance claims during the time his license was suspended and receiving nearly $5,000 from United Concordia.
Additionally, agents believe that Wasilko submitted insurance claims for at least one patient between August 2008 and July 2009 for procedures that were never performed.
Wasilko is charged with two counts of insurance fraud and two counts of theft by deception. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 9, 2012.
