An Allentown man who said he suffers from multiple sclerosis said the wheelchair ramp he uses to get in and out of his home was stolen.
Charles Martin said the ramp was taken on April 15 and he hasn't been able to leave his house since.
“I haven’t been out to see people or enjoy the weather we’ve been having. I can’t enjoy spending time with my children,” Martin said.
Martin said he believes his neighbor stole the ramp and sold it for scrap.
“What I heard was a truck and then I heard the metal being removed from the steps,” Martin said. “You never know what might hit you at any possible time. So treat people with handicaps in a way you would want to be treated.”
Martin said he has inquired about getting a new one, but was told that it would cost about $1,800, which he cannot afford.
“I’ll take what I can get, when I can get it,” Martin said.
Martin said he contacted police but nothing has been done.
