Pittsburgh Public Schools officials confirmed they are investigating the report that a 10-year-old girl was sexually assaulted on a school bus Monday morning.
The alleged incident happened on a bus heading to the Oliver Citywide Academy, school spokesperson Ebony Pugh said.
According to Pugh, a student told authorities he witnessed another student put his hand down the back of a 10-year-old girl’s pants while she was sleeping.
Pugh said the witnesses turned the boy in, and he was removed from the bus. She also said the boy will face disciplinary action from the school.
The alleged victim’s mother told Channel 11 News that she’s upset it took the school about two hours to notify her of the situation.
“I wasn’t aware of what happened until 9:50 a.m. this morning,” the woman said.
The mother said she picked her daughter up from school and took her home.
“I just want other parents to know that he’s still there, before this happens to another student,” the mother said.
School police, as well as the Pittsburgh Police Department's sex assault unit were notified, Pugh said. Both are investigating, and they haven’t said if any charges will be filed.
