Bicyclists take to streets to honor 2 killed on Penn Avenue

PITTSBURGH —

A group called Ride of Silence held a memorial bike ride to honor the lives of two people who were killed on Penn Avenue in July.

The memorial bike ride began in Schenley Plaza at 7 a.m. Monday.

James Price was hit and killed while riding his bicycle on Penn Avenue on July 25. Officials said he was riding in an area of Point Breese where there are no bike lanes.

Police said the driver did not stop and still has not been found.

The second accident happened just six days later in Wilkinsburg, also on Penn Avenue.

Anthony Green was hit by a Jeep Grand Cherokee and investigators said the driver did not have a valid driver's license.

Organizers of the event said they want to honor the lives of both cyclists who were killed and also raise awareness of cyclists on the roadways so accidents like these won't happen again.
