ROSS TOWNSHIP, Pa. —
The woman who miraculously survived after a box truck flipped onto her car on Perry Highway near Cemetery Lane in Ross Township early Wednesday morning wants to thank everyone that helped her.
Carol McKrell, who was trapped in her car when the box truck rolled onto her vehicle, was rushed to Allegheny General Hospital with a broken lower back and fractured ribs.
“It’s hard to believe that I am alive,” McKrell said Friday from her hospital bed. “How did I survive that?”
Officials said emergency crews worked for more than 45 minutes to free McKrell from the wreckage. Some of the first responders at the scene feared the accident may have been fatal.
McKrell said the last thing she remembers from the accident is trying to make a turn and then seeing the truck.
“That’s all I remember,” McKrell said. “Then a lady held my hand through the whole thing. There were two ladies, but the stranger helped me get through most of it at the beginning.”
McKrell said she woke up in the hospital and was comforted by friends and family members.
“I want to thank everybody involved, everybody who was up there at Perrysville. I want to thank all of them,” McKrell said.
The driver of the truck was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. His name and condition were not immediately released.
