Burglar strikes Shadyside apartment while residents sleep

SHADYSIDE, Pa. —

Pittsburgh police are searching for the person responsible for breaking into a Shadyside apartment last week while the residents of the home were sleeping.

Investigators said the burglary happened sometime between midnight and 2:30 a.m. last Monday.

Detectives said they’re not sure how the man gained entry into the Carlisle Apartment building on Shady Avenue and then into the victims’ apartment.

Wayne Buchholz, the building manager, said residents need a code or a key to get into the locked high-rise.

“This was a one-time issue. Over a number of years this has been a secure building. We don’t have any issues,” Buchholz said.

According to police, the burglar can be seen on surveillance video exiting the building carrying two backpacks that were stolen from the apartment.

The burglar is described as a tall black male who was wearing dark pants, a dark-colored logo T-shirt and a camouflage bush hat.

Investigators said the man got away with more than $3,000 worth of items from the victims' apartment.

So far, no arrests have been made. Anyone with information on the burglary is asked to contact police.
