Bylsma: Crosby to join team on road trip, will not play

PITTSBURGH —

Pittsburgh Penguins head coach Dan Bylsma said Friday that Sidney Crosby will accompany the team on its upcoming three-game road trip, but will not play in any of the games.

Bylsma said Crosby skated Friday morning before practice with strength and conditioning coach Mike Kadar at the team’s Southpointe facility.

Crosby, who hasn't played since concussion symptoms resurfaced following a loss to Boston on Dec. 5.,  will skate and work out on the road trip with center Jordan Staal and defensemen Simon Despres, who are both injured as well.

Bylsma said he isn’t sure when any of the three players will be ready to practice with the team, but said Staal and Despres are probably closer than Crosby.

"At this point in time, we don’t have a plan for any of those guys to join,” Bylsma said. “Both Jordan and Simon are progressing and sometime next week would be a possibility."

The Penguins (29-18-4, 62 points) begin their three-game road trip Saturday in Boston against the Bruins at 1 p.m.
