Canonsburg man gets prison for drug-related killing in Somerset

SOMERSET, Pa. (AP) -- A Canonsburg man has been sentenced to 15 to 40 years in prison for killing a man during a drug deal. The victim had also shot and wounded him.

Brett Bailey, 25, was sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty in December to third-degree murder.

Authorities said Bailey went to a Somerset apartment on April 14 to buy drugs from 39-year-old Samuel Taylor Jr., of Pittsburgh.

Taylor and Bailey shot each other during an argument, and Taylor died three days later in a hospital.

Bailey ran away and collapsed outside the Daily American newspaper in Somerset with gunshot wounds to his chest and arms.

Bailey apologized to Taylor's family Thursday, telling the judge who sentenced him, "I didn't want to kill anyone. I felt I was put in that position."
