HEMPFIELD, Pa. —
A car slammed into the front of an empty Hempfield church on Sunday, police said. Officials said the driver lost control and struck a utility pole and tree before going airborne and hitting the Herminie No. 2 United Methodist Church shortly after 3 p.m. Police said the church was empty at the time. Pastor Bruce Anthony said services had been held in the morning. Anthony estimated the damages at $10,000 to $12,000."It just got finished Saturday now it looks like we're gonna have to do more work," Anthony said. "Like we said, at least no one got injured or anything. We can always repair that." Officials did not release the name of the driver, but he was arrested at the scene.
