Carnegie Mellon University has named a new president.
The school said Tuesday that Dr. Subra Suresh will assume the job on July 1, replacing current President Jared Cohon, who's been president for 16 years.
The 56-year-old Suresh is currently the director of the National Science Foundation, a federal government agency. Suresh was previously dean of the school of engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Carnegie Mellon said a 17-member search committee chose Suresh.
Suresh said he's honored to have the opportunity to lead Carnegie Mellon, which has become one of the world's leading schools in robotics and computer engineering.
