JEANNETTE, Pa. —
A mother and father accused of allowing their family to live in a house of filth in Jeannette last year, year appeared in court on Thursday.
Shawn and Anna Wilson told Channel 11's Courtney Brennan that they are working to regain custody of their children.
Last December, police took the Wilson's children away and charged them with allowing their kids to live in filthy conditions.
Officials said after the children were placed in foster care, another problem arose.
"It came to my attention through the child's bureau that there were reports of one of the children having high levels of lead in their system. It became a cause of concern for myself," said building code officials Edwin Howley.
Howley said he sent a letter to the owner of the house. The Wilsons said they are no longer living in the home and they're working with an agency that will help them keep a safe and clean home.
The Wilsons are scheduled to have a custody hearing in March.
