Have you heard that President Obama has plans to pay your utility bills? Sounds too good to be true, doesn't it?
And it is. It's a cruel scheme to seal your identity.
Criminals are making their way across the country, and they're tricking people into believing there's a special federal government assistance program that will pay their utility bills.
It's sometimes described as a bailout from the Obama administration.
Victims are given bank account and routing numbers to use when paying their bills online.
Watch out! Here are the red flags.
They ask for your Social Security number and other personal information during registration, which they can use to steal your identity.
Beware, because it’s a trick. There's no such utility payment assistance program.
Last week, 2,000 people fell for it in Tampa, Fla.
There have also been victims here in Pennsylvania, but mainly in the eastern part of the state. So far, there have been no reports here in Pittsburgh.
A look at how the image of Santa Claus has evolved through the years.
