A couple cleared of insurance fraud have obtained their property seized by Wilkinsburg police two years ago.
Renee and Jarome Taylor’s possessions were seized after police accused them of insurance fraud, claiming the couple made up a story about their home being burglarized. The district attorney withdrew the charges in May, but the Taylors were still unable to get their items back from the police department despite obtaining a court order.
Renee Taylor said she had gone to the police department several times since May, even leaving a copy of the court order, but was unsuccessful in getting back their possessions.
Channel 11’s Rick Earle went to the police department Friday and was told by Chief Cookie Coleman that she was unaware of the court order.
Since Friday, Coleman reached out to Renee Taylor, and Taylor’s possessions, including three televisions and a $7,000 diamond ring, were returned Monday morning.
“Very frustrating, two years of my life and we win and it took a long time to get my stuff back,” said Renee Taylor. “I feel pretty good. I believe that if it wasn't for the news coming out, I wouldn't be getting my property at all.”
