Hiker rescued from McConnells Mill hillside where man died 2 years ago

LAWRENCE COUNTY, Pa. —

Emergency workers said they rescued a man who fell down a hillside at McConnells Mill in Lawrence County on Wednesday.

Officials said the 28-year-old man, whose name has not been released, was hiking at the Kildoo Falls and fell about 10 to 15 feet down a hillside. The area where the man fell is off-limits to hikers.

Lawrence County 911 dispatchers said crews rescued the man, and he was taken to an area hospital. His condition has not been released, but officials said he had head and wrist injuries.

According to authorities, the man had a seizure while hiking, causing him to fall.

“This was challenging because of the temperature and humidity,” Slippery Rock Township firefighter Joe Lalley said. “This is a common occurrence in this area where they aren’t supposed to be over the line.”

Lalley said the man was with a friend who was able to call 911.

Two years ago to the day, another hiker was killed on the same hillside while trying to rescue a woman who fell.

Megan McCune said she fell in the exact area and wants park officials to post more warning signs.

"It kills me that people still come here after everything that has happened," McCune said.
