SHARPSBURG, Pa. —

A hearing was held Wednesday morning for the crossing guard accused of being drunk while on the job in Sharpsburg.

Patricia Gross was ordered to undergo a drug and alcohol evaluation in order to have her charges reduced. On Wednesday she told the judge she is currently going through the requirements.

“It breaks my heart because I love the kids. To the parents, I’m sorry. A lot of them knew me and they knew that’s not how it was. I was going through a rough time, but that’s still not an excuse,” Gross said.

Police said they found Gross passed out on the front steps of a Sharpsburg home in September after a neighbor reported she was visibly impaired while helping children cross the street.
