DA: Ross Twp. man, 85, stole $670K from sister's trust
PITTSBURGH (AP) —
An 85-year-old Ross Township man has been charged with stealing $670,000 from his dead sister's trust fund, money that had been earmarked for her son and grandson.
The Allegheny County district attorney's office said Byron Chadderdon, of Ross Township, was to surrender on several theft charges Wednesday.
Investigators contend Chadderdon was executor of his sister's estate and was entitled to share equally in the interest the fund earned with his sister's other two heirs -- Chadderdon's nephew and grand-nephew. Those two men were supposed to split the principal from the fund once Chadderdon died.
Authorities began investigating in June, after the nephew found bank statements detailing withdrawals from the account.
Records show Chadderdon drained all but $80,000 from the trust since 2005, spending much of it on credit card bills.
