When it comes to losing weight, not all calories are created equal. A dietitian told Channel 11's Jennifer Abney about five foods that help fight fat. "A lot of people love berries because of the antioxidants," said Kim Schwabenbauer, a registered dietician. Berries are low in calories and rich in vitamin C, and they also increase a hormone in our body that lets us burn more fat. Plus, eating strawberries with meals can stabilize blood sugar and insulin levels, leaving you feeling full longer. Pistachios are No. 2 on the list. Researchers found eating in-shell pistachios helps trick the brain into thinking you have eaten more than you have. "Protein and fiber are definitely things that make you feel fuller for longer, so there's great protein and great fiber within nuts," said Schwabenbauer. One study found that when dieters upped their protein by 15 percent, they ate up to 441 fewer calories per day. The third food item, Greek yogurt, has twice as much protein and half the sugar as regular yogurt. Schwabenbauer suggests including an egg in your breakfast to avoid cravings later in the day. Researchers found dieters who ate an egg breakfast instead of a bagel meal lost 65 percent more weight and belly fat. And last on the list: green tea. It offers a double boost. The caffeine combined with a unique type of antioxidant help rev up your metabolism and boost fat burning. "It can help with metabolism, and help us to really also feel full from the volume of liquid," Schwabenbauer explained.
