Authorities are searching for two men wanted in connection with a violent robbery at a North Side beer distributor Wednesday night, as well as the store owner’s dog that scared the men away.
Sam Caruso told Channel 11’s Renee Kaminski that he was closing up for the night at Caruso Beer when two men, who he thought we customers, smashed him in the head with a brick and robbed the store.
Caruso’s family said they believe his dog, Cocoa, came to his rescue and scared the suspects away.
“I was shocked and worried about dad. I was hoping he was OK, but I think that dog saved his life and scared the guys. They took off,” Mark Caruso said.
Mark Caruso said no one has seen Cocoa, a Belgian Shepherd Malinois, since the incident and they’re concerned about their brave pet.
“She’s dark and tan with a black muzzle. She’s extremely energetic and a skinny, fit dog. If she’s out there, she’s running around,” Mark Caruso said.
The Caruso family is offering a reward for Cocoa’s safe return. Anyone who believes they see Cocoa is asked to contact Caruso Beer on the North Side or the Humane Society.
