A local woman is accused of running a prescription drug ring supplied by a doctor who faces a lengthy prison sentence after pleading guilty to federal drug charges.
Federal prosecutors said Thursday 54-year-old Carol Combs was supplied drugs by pain management specialist Dr. Oliver Herndon, who pleaded guilty Tuesday. Combs was indicted the same day.
Combs faces charges of drug conspiracy and distribution. U.S. Attorney David Hickton said Combs led a large organization that preyed on addicts.
According to Channel 11’s news exchange partners at TribLIVE, Combs is free on bail. A message left for her attorney Friday wasn't immediately returned.
Herndon faces an 11-year sentence under an agreement with prosecutors in which he admitted prescribing thousands of pills.
