Under new federal guidelines, the Allegheny County Health Department will no longer provide free vaccinations for children who are insured. Starting October 1st, the department will only give vaccines to children if they are uninsured, have Medicaid or are of Native American or Pacific Islander decent. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention mandated the new guidelines. Last year, more than half of children who received vaccinations were insured.
