The National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning for the Channel 11 News viewing area as temperatures plunge through the 40s into the 30s and perhaps even lower.
The advisory is scheduled to be active from 1 a.m. until 9 a.m. Monday.
Severe Weather Team 11 Meteorologist Scott Harbaugh said that temperatures are expected to drop to near or below the freezing point of 32 degrees. Unprotected plants and flowers might suffer damage from the unseasonably cold conditions.
The record low for the morning of May 13, set in 1996, is 30 degrees. Harbaugh said that temperatures in Pittsburgh should drop to 33 degrees just before sunrise Monday.
Another freeze or frost is possible Tuesday morning as temperatures across the region once again drop into the low-30s.
