An 11-year-old girl was rushed to Children’s Hospital after she was attacked by a dog Wednesday afternoon in Beechview.
According to police, the incident was reported just before 5 p.m. on Saranac Avenue.
Investigators said the mastiff got out of a fenced-in yard and attacked the girl as she was walking home from school with her twin brother.
Officials said the girl was bitten on the neck and back. Her name and condition haven’t been released.
According to Channel 11’s news exchange partners at TribLIVE, the animal was eventually returned to its home and the owner agreed to quarantine it there for several days. It’s unclear if the dog’s owner will be charged.
Neighbors who live in the area told Channel 11’s Renee Kaminski that the dog is generally a nice dog.
