Goldsboro, a community founded by blacks in 1891, has felt itself as a stepchild to Sanford after being incorporated during a westward expansion.
Today, it finds itself bound to the family of Trayvon Martin.
Residents are closely following the murder trial of George Zimmerman. "Use the wisdom of Solomon," resident Fay Henderson said, in expressing her hopes about the jury's deliberations.
Most gathered at Goldsboro Welcome Center felt the jury's extended deliberations would favor a conviction. "If they were going to find him innocent, they would not have to go through all the evidence, so there must be something there," said one woman.
She pointed out that O.J. Simpson was found not guilty in 1995 after only four hours of deliberations.
