HEMPFIELD, Pa. —
A Westmoreland County woman said she was victimized by a lottery scheme for nearly $10,000.
According to police, the Hempfield Township woman was contacted by a man claiming to be from Miami who told her she had won the lottery.
The victim told officers that the man said she needed to send money to cover the taxes on her winnings.
The woman sent nearly $10,000 in wire transfers and never received any money.
Authorities warn people to not wire money to anyone that does not appear to be legitimate.
