Homeless grandson sought in $12 burglary

PITTSBURGH (AP) —

Pittsburgh police said they're looking for a homeless man charged with stealing $12 from his grandmother's room at an assisted living center.

Police have been unable to find 34-year-old Paul Lavelle since the incident on April 13 at Canterbury Place.

They believe Lavelle entered the woman's unoccupied residence and stole the money from her purse that night. Visitors might sign in and enter through an electronically unlocked door, but police believe Lavelle may have sneaked in behind another visitor who did sign in.

Police said a witness later saw Lavelle wandering the halls of the building and later going through his grandmother's belongings. After that, the money was found missing.

Police have an arrest warrant for Lavelle on burglary and theft charges.
